Cultural Heritage in Cyberspace

Cultural Heritage in Cyberspace

The project “Cultural Heritage in Cyberspace: Education, Preservation, Access”, which is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), aims to create a comprehensive bi-national academic network as part of the DAAD program for German-Egyptian partnership. It seeks to establish a sustainable collaboration between German and Egyptian academic institutions in the field of cultural heritage preservation through digitalization projects, fostering young talent, exchanging experts, producing shared knowledge, and promoting cultural awareness in line with the DAAD’s program for German-Egyptian partnership.

The project is at the intersection of Islamic, Arabic, and Middle Eastern studies, the study of oriental manuscripts and cultural heritage, and digital humanities. The practical project goals include the development of cross-border German-Egyptian digital infrastructures for oriental manuscripts, as well as the transfer of practical and technical knowledge. The German-Egyptian partnership aims to preserve cultural heritage, promote comprehensive societal access to knowledge, and advance the academic discourse on cultural heritage on both the German and Egyptian sides. The Gotha Research Library is one of the German partner organizations in the project.
