Mediating Islam in the Digital Age
The Marie Curie Initial Training Network “Mediating Islam in the Digital Age” (MIDA) assumes that digitalisation and technological progress have a significant impact on Islam, with diverse and far-reaching consequences reminiscent of past technological revolutions such as the printing press. Therefore, the project investigates the challenges posed to the Islamic world by the emergence of new technologies in the digital age. These developments are studied in their various dimensions, with a focus on the following questions: (1) How does digitalisation shape Islam (i.e. beliefs, practices, societies, political organisations, social institutions, and views)? (2) How does it change the relationships of Muslim men and women with their past? (3) How does it alter and reorganise research on Islam?
MIDA is co-ordinated by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in Paris. The Gotha Research Library is one of thirteen partner organizations and supports three junior researchers in Gotha.
