Biographical/Historical information:

Nachdem das Reichsgericht 1925 die Fürstenenteignung von 1919 für ungültig erklärt hatte, wurde die Bibliothek mit den anderen Sammlungsteilen in die 1928 gegründete und ab 1934 wirksame Herzog von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha'sche Stiftung für Kunst und Wissenschaft eingebracht. Ihre Bestände wurden 1946 größtenteils in die Sowjetunion überführt. 1948 wurde die Restbibliothek und - nach Rückkehr der Bestände - am 21. Mai 1957 die restituierte Landesbibliothek Gotha wiedereröffnet.
