This work explores in a marginal and border area of the Spanish empire, the province of Maracaibo in the 18th century, the relationships of some groups that fluctuated between incomplete subordination and resistance, with Spanish Monarchy. The case of the «motilones» is interesting because it tests adaptation, resistance strategies and occasional mediations between the actors involved
Este trabajo explora en una zona marginal y de frontera del imperio español, la provincia de Maracaibo en el siglo XVIII, las relaciones de unos grupos que fluctuaron entre la incompleta subordinación y la resis-tencia, con la monarquía española. El caso de los «motilones» es interesante por poner a prueba la adaptación, las estrategias de resistencia y las ocasio-nales mediaciones entre los actores involucrados
